Event description
This topic describes the neurobiology of trauma, child maltreatment, interpersonal violence and the impact of traumatic events on an individual's mental health. The principles of trauma informed care are examined, alongside the importance of practitioner awareness - not to re-traumatise consumers through mental health service experiences. The topic also outlines the rationale for the re-orientation of services, components of the therapeutic relationship and the values which underpin trauma-informed practice.
