Vicarious trauma and burnout are major risk factors for mental health workers. Being able to manage our own trigger responses to repeatedly witnessing the distress of others is essential.

Suitable for: Support workers who deal with clients in distress on a regular basis.

This event will cover:

  • Definitions of stress, burnout, compassion fatigue and vicarious trauma
  • Strategies for managing burnout / compassion fatigue.
  • Models of reflective practice.
  • The role of empathy, compassion and boundaries in working with clients
  • Understanding the autonomic nervous system
