Vicarious trauma and burnout are major risk factors for mental health workers. Being able to manage our own trigger responses to repeatedly witnessing the distress of others is essential.Suitable for: Support workers who deal with clients in distress on a regular basis.
This event will cover:
- Definitions of stress, burnout, compassion fatigue and vicarious trauma
- Strategies for managing burnout / compassion fatigue.
- Models of reflective practice.
- The role of empathy, compassion and boundaries in working with clients
- Understanding the autonomic nervous system
